Choosing a career in early childhood is life-changing.

Your opportunity

A career in early childhood offers you the opportunity to work in a variety of education and care roles in a number of different settings.

In Queensland, the majority of early childhood education and care services are privately-owned or operated by a community organisation (for example, a church or not-for-profit group). A small number of services are provided by government.

Under the National Quality Framework, early childhood services are required to employ staff that hold or are studying towards an approved early childhood qualification. The approved levels of education and care qualifications in Australia are:

  • certificate III level educator
  • diploma level educator
  • early childhood teacher.

Your role will vary depending on your qualification and the service type.
